Artist Statement:

My skin is often referred to as yellow. It is part of my story. It highlights a small yet incomplete picture of who I am. Without context, it is only a beautiful color.

My interest in black and white art with a singular gold embellishment inspires me to explore the historical and contemporary lives of Black Americans through anti-Black and Black affirming relationships. Gritty backgrounds, bold typography, or layered imagery set the tone for each piece in rich contrast. My expressions of joy and sadness challenge the orientation of our direction as a people, and more importantly as humanity. My aim is to tell a story, inspire, provoke thought and understanding, or to shine a little light on our history, our society, or our country. By stripping away all the ambient colors I aim to take you on a dynamic, raw, black and white journey through the pulse of our society as we work toward disrupting the reproduction of inequality for Black Americans. Equality, not supremacy, is my passion.

Context: I am a Black Man, assaulted by White supremacy.
